How To Avoid Risky Social Media Posts for Your Business

Using social media platforms is a great way to connect with your customers, with the added advantage of being able to sell more of your product and services. You’ll have direct access to your customers, which allows you to receive valuable feedback for your business on what is and isn’t working – which is important information to have in competitive markets. If your business uses social media to stay connected, knowing how posts can impact your business is vital to success on these platforms.

Avoid False Advertising
With all eyes on your social media accounts, you may want to set your product apart from other competitors. You may be tempted to make remarkable claims about your products and services, but you should avoid making claims that are not true. In addition to that, you should work with your legal department on which claims you can make about your product or service.

Leave Your Competition Out of It
Avoid making false statements about your industry competitors. Not only do your social media posts live on the internet forever, but they could also be a possible liability for your company. Focus on your business’s efforts to provide your customers with valuable services and products. Keeping your posts positive will naturally attract more customers.

Protect Customers’ and Business Partners’ Privacy
Social media platforms are an easy way to share information about your business. Unfortunately, not everything you have to share may have the green light to be put on the internet. Be respectful of your business partners’ or customers’ privacy when posting online and avoid posting information that may jeopardize that privacy.

Keep Contests and Giveaways Compliant
Nothing drives customer engagement like the offer of free items from a contest or giveaway. Many businesses use this tactic to gain more exposure, but it must be done correctly to reduce business liability. Before launching a campaign, take time to research what restrictions apply based on your state and federal regulations and consult your legal expert.

Protect Your Business with Business Insurance
Effective use of social media accounts can help your business expand to new markets, so appropriate use of it is critical to the success of your business. Protecting your business with commercial insurance can eliminate nearly all of your worries about social media posts. For example, general liability insurance will help cover losses that stem from libel, slander, and the use of celebrity endorsements without obtaining permission. In addition to that, errors and omissions coverage can help protect your business if you make erroneous professional posts. There are many options available to help protect your business while managing your social media accounts.

Maintaining active social media accounts is a great way to connect with your customers. If your business uses social media, take care to ensure that your posts represent your business. Posts making false claims or slandering your competition can threaten your business. As a precaution, always fact-check and purchase general liability insurance.
